Thirteen clubs and the busiest season the VFA has scheduled

Thirteen clubs enter Season 6, and between them they are down to play 209 matches — more than any season the association has run, and more than the first three seasons put together.
The season before this one managed 167 with twelve clubs. Season 1 managed forty with nine.
